Who doesn’t love a loaf of freshly baked bread? More specifically, sourdough bread? We can’t think of anything better and neither can the guys that created Sourdough September – a whole month, every year – to pay homage to the popular baked delight!

If you’re struggling to decide how to celebrate, don’t worry, Parcel Pete is on hand to provide you all with his favourite topping ideas so that you can really make the most of Sourdough September!

Butter and Jam

So, we thought it was best to start with a classic combo. You truly can’t beat butter and jam on toast. Here at Groceries2Go, we have a great selection of jams, so whether you enjoy strawberry or blackcurrant jam or you’d rather opt for apricot, we’ve got something for everyone.

Chicken, mozzarella and pesto

This is the ultimate way to enjoy Sourdough September, this recipe makes a great brunch or dinner option. Start by toasting your white or brown sourdough bread and spread on a generous layer of pesto, slice your cooked chicken, add to your toast and top with slices of mozzarella. You can place it under the grill or enjoy it as it is, we’ll leave that up to you.

Crunchy peanut butter and banana

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, we’ve got another classic combo for you. You can’t go wrong with a slice of toasted sourdough bread slathered in crunchy peanut butter and topped with sliced banana. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous why not drizzle some Mrs B’s Pure Blossom Honey over the top?

Ham, pineapple and cheddar cheese

Now we’re aware this might be a controversial one considering the ongoing debate about whether pineapple belongs on pizza, however more to the point, does it belong on sourdough? And our answer would be yes, yes it does. Toast your sourdough, add your ham and pineapple, top with grated cheese and shove it under the grill to melt. Sprinkle on some salt and pepper and enjoy!

Eggs and avocado

The classic avocado on toast seemed to accelerate the love for sourdough bread and we can see why. Avocados are now a popular breakfast choice and love them or hate them, they’re not going anywhere. Simply toast your sourdough and smash your avocado, adding salt, pepper and garlic granules and spread it on top of your toast. Poach your egg and place it on top and finish with sweet and spicy chilli and garlic sauce. If that’s not enough spice, try adding some crushed chilli flakes for a fiery kick.

Tomato, Mozzarella and basil

If you love Caprese, you will love this recipe. Toast your sourdough and top with your sliced tomato and mozzarella. Tear your fresh basil and finish with a drizzle of Italian balsamic glaze

Tomato sauce, cheese and chorizo

What could possibly be better than a sourdough pizza? This recipe is as good as it gets. Simply spread your tomato sauce over your sourdough, add your grated cheese and chorizo slices and whack it under the grill to melt. Once your cheese is bubbling, remove and sprinkle with oregano to give it a real taste of Italia!

So, we hope Parcel Pete has given you some ideas for toppings to celebrate Sourdough September, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with. If you want to shop any of the items mentioned, click here.
