It’s 1 week until the long-awaited August Bank Holiday – and at last, it is predicted to be a dry and fairly sunny one! With this in mind, we thought that we would share some of our favourite summery drinks recipes with you – alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

Whether you are in celebratory or wind-down mode, an alcoholic beverage is the perfect accompaniment. And since it’s Summer, you’re going to want something cold, thirst-quenching and fresh.

Strawberry Gin & Tonic

There is just something so utterly summery about strawberries. They’re bright and colourful; they’re fruity and floral; they’re juicy and refreshing. For these reasons, we are kicking off our list of delicious Summer drinks with a strawberry cocktail – the Blushing Strawberry Gin & Tonic by Simply Delicious.

The G&T is a fantastic cocktail alone – aromatic, crisp and balanced. Marry this with the beautiful flavours of the strawberry, and you have a drink that really celebrates Summer time.

This recipe involves the making of your own strawberry syrup – a fun activity and learning curve for some! However, if you are short on time or simply want a super quick and easy fix, Lyle’s Strawberry Syrup is a perfect substitute for the homemade strawberry syrup. For the sugar-conscious, the Skinny Food Co’s Strawberry Jelly Syrup is a fantastic, guilt-free option.

Tom Collins

The Tom Collins is an absolute cocktail classic. Fizzy, tangy and mouth-wateringly refreshing, this drink is just reminiscent of a gleaming Summer’s day. Jamie Oliver offers a simple 4-step recipe so you can easily make yourself a Mr. Collins – without the need for any fancy equipment!

If you’re planning to make a big batch of this for friends and family – or for yourself – Quick Lemon’s Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice (not from concentrate!) will save your time, energy and hands. Each bottle contains the juice from approximately 20 lemons!

The beauty of the Tom Collins is that you can make it whatever flavour you want by adding in a syrup, cordial or juice to-taste. We recommend the Skinny Food Co’s Blueberry Syrup for a guilt-free, summery Blueberry Collins, or Rose’s Lime Juice Cordial for an extra vibrant and tantalising Lime Collins.

Piña Colada

For a fresh Summer cocktail with an indulgent twist, we have chosen this Puerto Rican classic: The Piña Colada. The name of the drink is Spanish for “strained pineapple” – the core ingredient of this sensational drink. The perfect Piña Colada tastes distinctly of coconut and pineapple, which is why we have selected this recipe by Everyday Delicious.

Traditionally, the Piña Colada uses coconut cream, but given its thickness and richness, it’s hard to indulge as much as one should during a Bank Holiday weekend. Much like Everyday Delicious, we prefer to opt for coconut milk as this makes for lighter and more well-balanced drink.

If you don’t drink, are on an alcohol-detox or simply want to make something that the whole family can enjoy, here are 3 delicious recipes for you.

Biscoff Milkshake

Starting off with the more-moreish of non-alcoholic Summer drinks, we’ve chosen the Biscoff Milkshake by professional chef and food blogger, Jack Slobodian. It’s cold, it’s rich, it’s flavourful and it only takes 5 minutes to make! Plus, it’s a drink that the whole pack can enjoy. You will be sure to impress with this one.

You only need 4 ingredients to make this Biscoff deliciousness: Biscoff biscuits, Biscoff spread, vanilla ice cream and whole milk. Yes, that’s it! For any vegans reading this, do not feel like you’re about to miss out on something real good. Biscoff is vegan-friendly! All that is required is that you substitute the vanilla ice-cream for a vegan option, and the whole milk with something dairy-free. Find our range of regular and dairy-free milks here.

Lemon Iced Tea

For something lighter than a milkshake, but equally as refreshing, we love an iced tea – in particular, lemon iced tea! The lemon is another ingredient that undoubtedly exudes Summer. They’re vibrant, they’re sharp, and they’re bright yellow! We love this Sweet Lemon Iced Tea recipe by Erren’s Kitchen – perfect on a warm Summer’s day.

Lemon iced tea is the perfect drink to start your day with – especially with the caffeine kick that comes with it! While this recipe calls for your classic black tea, you can use whatever flavour of tea you like! Whether that’s jasmine tea, green tea or lemongrass & ginger tea. Shop our full range of teas here.

Bubble Tea

Speaking of refreshing tea recipes, have you heard of the Bubble Tea? This is a traditional Taiwanese iced-tea drink and is growing rapidly in popularity all over the world. Bubble Tea is traditionally made with black tea, milk, sugar and chewy tapioca balls (AKA pearls, boba and bubbles). Now, there are several variations of the Bubble Tea – including fruity versions. We have a Twinings-approved recipe for you, which uses their deliciously fragrant Earl Grey tea.

If you’re not an Earl Grey lover, you may use any black tea to replicate this Taiwanese classic. Browse our range of everyday teas here.

Which summery drink are you planning on making this Bank Holiday?

Sidenote, if you are not an alcohol-drinker, you can skip the alcoholic addition. On the contrary, if you are an alcohol-drinker, add your favourite mixer to your choice of “non-alcohol” recipes.

Happy August Bank Holiday!
